Sunday Pilau On Sundays i dont leave the house. i use whatever ingredients i have at home. you can use fresh or frozen veggies for this dish and substitute any as well.   17. Take 1 brinjal cut into pieces
  18. Get 1 cup frozen sweet corn
  19. Get 3 medium potatoes cut into large cubes

  21. Get chopped mint
  22. Take 4 tbsp plain yoghurt
  23. Take 300 g carrots
  24. Take 1 and 1/2 cups basmati rice (rinsed)
  25. Prepare 300 g baby carrots
  26. Get 1/2 kg beef or mutton mince

It has been updated once since then. My father's pelau is (not surprisingly) my favourite and has been a staple over the long Carnival weekend in my family, for as long as I can remember. Breakfast: Tea with bread and fried eggs. OR with samosas; Lunch: Ugali, vegetables and fish/omena/chicken.

Steps to make Sunday Pilau:
  1. Melt butter in the pot. add cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, ground coriander,salt,black pepper,turmeric,leaf masala and curry leaves. allow the heat to release the flavours of the spices
  2. Add the masala to the spices in the pot
  3. While stirring throw in all your veggies, tomato paste and yoghurt
  4. And
  5. And
  6. Stir in the uncooked rice
  7. Add mince and 1 cup water. stir well.
  8. Let it cook on a high heat for about 20 mins until the rice becomes fluffy
  9. Stir occasionally to prevent the rice from sticking to the pot.
  10. Once the rice swells, turn down the heat to lowest. keep the lid closed. Allow the food to steam together for +- 30 mins. until the potatoes are soft. you can add another 1/4 cup water if u find your rice or potatoes uncooked.
  11. While you are waiting for this, prepare yoghurt with chopped fresh coriander, mint and salt to taste.

Breakfast: Tea with bread and fried eggs. OR with samosas; Lunch: Ugali, vegetables and fish/omena/chicken. Dinner: Pilau; Kenyan Breakfast Chapati food/Photo.
