The ingredients needed to make Upma:
  1. Make ready 1/2 cup suji/rava (medium size)
  2. Take 1 1/2 cup water
  3. Prepare 1 tsp urad daal slpit
  4. Make ready 1/2 tsp chana daal
  5. Prepare 1 onion chopped
  6. Prepare 1 carrot chopped
  7. Get 1-2 green chilli
  8. Prepare 10-12 french beans chopped
  9. Get 1 capsicum chopped (optional)
  10. Take 1 potato chopped (optional)
  11. Make ready 1 tomato chopped (optional)
  12. Get 12-15 curry leaves
  13. Make ready Handful coriander leaves (optional)
  14. Make ready 1/2 cumin seeds
  15. Make ready 1/2 mustard seeds
  16. Prepare 1/4-1/2 red chilli powder (depends on your taste)
  17. Make ready 1/2 tsp kashmiri lal mirchi powder
  18. Prepare Pinch Turmeric powder
  19. Get Salt as per taste
  20. Prepare 2-3 tsp oil

Essentially, upma is a thick, porridge-like breakfast dish that is made from coarse rice flour or semolina that has been dry-roasted. Its extremely versatile, so don't be afraid to experiment with ingredients. Upma (pronounced oop-maa) is a traditional Indian dish served mainly during breakfast. Steps to make Upma:
  1. First nicely dry roast suji and keep it aside. Chop veggies.
  2. Now in pan add oil & heat it. Now add urad dal and chana daal & fry for 1 minutes, now add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, green chilli and curry leaves. (Do this process on slow flame else daal will turn out black and will not taste good)
  3. Now add onion and your desired veggies, add salt mix it and cover the pan so veggies gets cooked nicely.
  4. Once veggies become soft add chopped tomato and cook it for two minutes. Now add red chilli powder, Kashmiri lal mirchi powder, turmeric powder lil salt and mix and add water. (Water should be 3 times of suji) here I skipped tomato just for taste change.
  5. Once water start boiling add suji slowly slowly and keep mixing else suji will get lumps. Now cover for 2 minutes,add coriander leaves and upma is ready.
  6. Enjoy your hot upma with coconut chutney!!!
